What is liposuction?

Liposuction, also called lipoplasty or suction-assisted lipectomy, removes deposits of excess fat from areas of the body such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, face and neck. Liposuction is suitable for men and women of relatively normal weight who have isolated pockets of fat.

Liposuction can be performed on several areas of the body at the same time and is often combined with other cosmetic surgical procedures. Dr Vij will discuss the best options for you.

Is liposuction right for me?

Always talk to your surgeon before deciding whether liposuction is right for you. Liposuction may be appropriate if you are a healthy weight but have localised deposits of fat that resist diet and exercise. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to have liposuction in combination with other cosmetic surgical procedures. This will be explained simply and clearly during the consultation.

Potential complications

All surgery comes with some degree of risk. Although significant complications from liposuction are usually unlikely, complications such as bleeding and infection are possible. Don’t worry, Dr Vij will explain potential complications and commit to supporting you throughout recovery.
