What is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, also known as ‘tummy tuck’, is a surgical procedure designed to change the appearance of the abdominal area. The abdomen may be weakened by factors such as pregnancy, weight loss or as part of the normal ageing process.  There are many different types of abdominoplasty procedures available, and operations should be tailored to suit your own wishes and needs. Dr Vij will discuss which options are most suitable.  Dr Vij advises patients with a BMI over 30 to lose weight and return for review before considering surgery.

Is abdominoplasty right for me?

Abdominoplasty may be a good option if you have loose abdominal skin or if the muscles of your abdomen are weakened. These are common problems after pregnancy or weight loss and unfortunately can’t be improved by diet and exercise alone.  Following abdominoplasty you may experience an improvement in your abdominal contour and muscle strength. This will be explained during the consultation.

Potential complications

All surgery comes with some some degree of risk. For example, bleeding, wound breakdown and infection are possible.  Dr Vij will explain potential complications and commit to supporting you throughout recovery.
